Fellows Book Online Version 2020

20 Fellows Talk 3 Hello everybody, I will narrate to you in my talk about the history of the French world record relay, how it happened. We are in Split, Croatia on the 1st of September 1990 at the European championships. It’s the final of the 4x100m relay. Nobody is expecting us at that level. We are about to realize a great performance. One of the greatest in French athletics history, a team performance. The favorite for the race are the British, they won the 100m and the 200m, the 100m with Linford Christy and with John Regis. So they are the favorites of this relay, of this final. But we are very motivated because of the frustration of the defeat on the 100 and 200m and we are also very confident because we are confident in our team, we know we worked together for a long time and we work much better than other teams. On the international scene, the Americans led by Carl Lewis are individually much better than us and they held the world record for decades. If we take the addition of the best times of our four sprinters and the four American sprinters, there is one second difference. One second difference seems not so much time, but it’s more than 10m difference, which is a long way on the track. So in theory, it was difficult for us to win this race and it was even more difficult and maybe impossible Jean Charles Trouabal Former World Relay Record Sprinter
