Fellows Book Online Version 2020

40 Workshop 1 Jonatan Cabanelas (Aspire Academy) was the moderator of the workshop. He introduced the workshop with a reflection, first, and then a question. The reflection was related to a thought that Gianluca Vialli shared in the chat. He opened up to us about how he lived his process as football player and coach, and how talent is related to an attitude and the passion for the sport you are developing. Then came the opening questions: “How do you develop passion in your clubs and how do you transfer it to the pitch?” The first person who jumped in was Israel Martínez Prieto (Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa) . “In our club we work with the players with individual objectives. We discuss them with the psychology department and we establish and assess them during the season to see the progress and development of the players.” After him, Roberto Niccolai, (FC Internazionale Milano) , spoke about how the passion is present in every activity they do. He underlined the engine of the passion is the joy of the game. And how they would like to transfer this for the practice. On the other hand, Alexander Aleksieiev (Shakhtar Donetsk) said, “The loyalty to the club is one of the key factors in our club. To work on belonging to our way is something we face on a daily basis.” Then, Jonatan, the moderator, made a connection between passion and what Vialli spoke about the quality of the training. “How do you work on the quality in the training in your Academies?” In this moment, Isaac Guerrero, (FC Barcelona) asked a question: “Do you give room in your academy to learn between peers?”. Pedro Dias (SL Benfica), answered that creating an environment where the staff connects with the players is really important in their daily work. They try to encourage this relationship within every practice. He stated that neuroscience is showing evidence about how learning between equals has a positive impact on the learning process. Jonatan jumped to another interesting topic in all the academies: “How is the result involved in the training?” Alfonso Mondelo (MLS), wanted to explain how the result is a consequence of the learning process. The result is information you have from a match, but the important point is what you do with this information: how you understand it and how you transfer it for the learning process. Furthermore , Jonatan connects this again with Vialli’s chat where he spoke about the importance of knowing yourself to be competitive. This is the moment where Gianluca Vialli enters the chat and he spoke about how feedback is important to know yourself and help yourself to improve. He reminded everyone of the moment when at Chelsea, he changed his role from player to manager. Related to this, he mentioned an anecdote with Sir Alex Ferguson where he told him that one of the key points to have a clear mind would be to have the capacity to switch off from what you are doing, and take into account other things from your life. Jonatan takes his words and says: “A leader, has had to be a follower before and has to know how to follow”. Gianluca Vialli finished the workshop concluding that the learning he had over the years is that we need to learn how to put on others shoes, to look inside and that the players are now developing within a different reality that we should be able to adapt ourselves.
